The mission of Oregon Solutions is to develop sustainable solutions to community-based problems that support economic, environmental, and community objectives and are built through the collaborative efforts of businesses, government, and non-profit organizations. In its short tenure, Oregon Solutions has fostered the development of 37 local projects around the state. Everyone is talking about green collar jobs. Among these are well-paying jobs in the wind industry, which is taking energy independence to new heights. Growing investment in green technologies is helping to make a career in wind energy a secure and attractive choice for many Gorge residents. Columbia Gorge Community College has stepped up to the plate with its Renewable Energy Technology (RET) program, which offers a one-year certificate or two-year Associate of Applied Science degree in renewable energy technology. ODA's Agriculture Development and Marketing Division (ADMD) offers an integrated program to address development and marketing needs of Oregon's agricultural industry. This young company has developed many creative applications for wool produced locally, including biodegradable storm drains for municipalities. The Mt Hood Economic Alliance is a partnership between Clackamas, Hood River and Wasco counties that administers the Regional Investment and Rural Investment Programs which fosters and promotes economic development. A region of rural geographic and economic similarities, Clackamas, Hood River and Wasco counties also share a common connection to the urban Portland metropolitan area.
